From Mrs. H.

First of all, let me thank all of you for your flexibility in circumstances that keep changing!  Secondly, thank you for all that you do regularly already at home for your children and what you will be doing additionally in the weeks to come.  I know how disrupted routines and much more "together time" (especially for siblings!) can make for challenging days.

Here are some general suggestions that I hope are helpful to you:

  • Get the kids outside as much as you can, weather permitting!  The exercise is good for body and soul, and they will likely sleep better for you!

  • Try to read two books everyday (or more if they will cooperate and/or ask!) - this can be you reading to them, or use one of the videos I will post.

  • You do not need to be a super-crafty artist to come up with some fine motor activities for the kids - they can practice cutting, drawing, taping, gluing, etc. with any bits and scraps you have around the house.  Playdough is also a wonderful way for them to use those small muscles and be really creative.

  • Ask lots of questions!  Even when their answers don't make sense, just continuing to help them practice conversation is so beneficial, and it does give many opportunities to teach them all kinds of information in the process.

  • Make a little book or journal about your activities over the next few weeks - they can dictate to you the words, and draw the pictures themselves!
